Margaret Holbrough, careers consultant at Graduate Prospects, said that the primary route into the research and development side of pharmaceuticals is via a science degree, usually biological sciences, chemistry or a mixture of the two. Maths and IT degrees are also relevant to some jobs in this region, Ms Holbrough noted.A degree may be a requirement for a quantity of entry-level positions in many pharmaceutical organisations and the location of study could have a substantial impact on applicants’ chances of breaking into the business. This was perhaps emphasised by a recent study from Denmark’s Roskilde University, which indicated that master’s degree students at the institution’s natural sciences programmes have a good opportunity at obtaining a job in their selected field as soon as they have graduated. The Roskilde University’s Master’s Degree Study showed that more than a quarter of individuals graduating from the educational establishment with a master’s in the all-natural sciences begin their scientific careers as a PhD fellow. Those who do not move on to a PhD programme are generally employed in the pharmaceutical business or in the education method, the study revealed.”We are much more than satisfied with the outcome. It clearly shows that our natural science programmes prepare students for a demanding job.
